This multicolored bird is undoubtedly the most beautiful pigeon in the world

Some animals, however particularly unknown, are just magnificent. This is particularly the case of the bird that we will make you discover and present to you through this article. This rare creature is one of the relatives of the now extinct dodo. The species is even the closest living relative of the famous flightless bird.

The Nicobar hackle, closest relative of the dodo

The first thing that will surely come to your mind when you see this bird is that it does not look like the dodo at all. And it must be recognized that visually it has nothing to do with the missing bird. The most striking difference is the striking plumage of the Nicobar camail, more commonly known as the Nicobar pigeon, which shines in iridescent blue, copper and green tones. But that’s not all that is sensational about him. In addition to this colorful dress, the animal is also remarkable for its reddish legs and its small white tail. This colorful feature developed due to their location. Indeed, the bird has long been isolated on small islands and had no natural predators. Since they don’t need to hide, they were able to develop these feathers full of shine.

The Nicobar pigeon, known for its colorful coat, is currently under threat

The Nicobar pigeon resides in Southeast Asia and the Pacific, from the Indian Nicobar Islands eastward to areas such as Thailand and Papua New Guinea. Although the exact number of its inhabitants is not precisely known, the species is in decline due to deforestation which reduces its natural habitat day by day. Added to this is the introduction of non-native predators like rats and cats to these islands. The Nicobar Pigeon is now considered ‘threatened’ and conservation efforts are proposed to help the species recover and thrive again.

And when you see the incredible beauty of this bird, you say to yourself that it would be a shame to see it disappear, isn’t it?
