An “ugly” pit bull that no one wanted finally finds a home after a long wait

All shelter dogs are waiting to be adopted, but unfortunately some end up waiting longer than others.

The sad reality is that often people choose their new pet based on looks and often go for the cutest pup around, overlooking some less conventional looking dogs.

But these dogs deserve to be loved too…like this brave boy who spent years waiting for the right forever home, only to finally find a happy ending.

Meet Wally, the pit bull:

Wally was saved. Thank you to everyone who shared her story. This handsome little senior is Wally the…

Wally doesn’t look like an ordinary dog, that’s for sure. But he’s had a tough life and is just looking for a family to spend his last years with.

Wally was first brought to the Islip Town Animal Shelter on Long Island, New York, he was stray and already nearly 10 years old.

He also had a few health issues, including a skin infection and blindness in one eye. All of this gave poor Wally an appearance that the shelter said might scare away potential adopters.

However, he turned out to have a wonderful personality and became a favorite of the shelter employees.

“He loves drooling on you and would do anything for food,” veterinary tech Danielle Gorle told The Dodo. “He also likes to just hang around and do nothing.”

“Wally is an amazing walrus/hippo/rhino dog who really just needs an accepting home to spend his golden years in!”. Jen, a shelter volunteer, wrote on Facebook.

“It’s a little porridge and the favorite of the volunteers”.

Unfortunately, many visitors to the refuge have not seen the beauty below. Wally waited a year to find a new home, without finding a buyer. He needed to be the only pet and is not good with other animals.

And according to the shelter, the rejection began to take its toll on her well-being.

“He seems to be declining,” Gorle said. “He was happier when he arrived. He likes when he can go out but he seems depressed in his kennel.”

But Wally’s story has a happy ending. About a month after it went viral and we first reported on the dog, the shelter announced that Wally had finally found his forever home!

“He’s relaxing comfortably and looking great!” the shelter wrote.

We are so happy for Wally! All dogs deserve a loving home, no matter what they look like.
