Meet Flossie, the oldest cat on the planet according to Guinness World Records

Flossie is not your average pet. The reason ? He was officially recognized by Guinness World Records as the oldest cat in the world.

The record for the oldest cat in the world is attributed to Flossie, an adorable tom from south-east London (England). In any case, this is what the Guinness World Records says.

The oldest cat in the world is 26 years old

From the top of her 26 years (the equivalent of 120 years in human age), the cat with the two-tone coat has known several owners. According to the organization, the furball spent the first years of its life on the streets, near a hospital.

Luckily, she was picked up by a kind-hearted employee. They lived together for ten years until the woman’s death. For her part, Flossie found a new home with the sister of the deceased for 14 years.

When the latter died, the cat was entrusted to an animal shelter before being placed with Vicki Green, her new owner. The one who is used to taking care of old cats has forged very strong ties with the feline.

“I knew from the start that Flossie was a special animal, but I never imagined that I would share my house with a holder of a title of the Guinness World Records”, explained the young woman to our colleagues from the BBC.

Despite her advanced age and her health problems (deafness, visual impairment), the cat is enjoying life to the fullest: “She is so affectionate and playful, it’s particularly incredible when you remember her age”.
