In 1999, a man was unafraid to come to the aid of a herd of wild elephants in South Africa – the animals were considered too unpredictable and even local rangers wouldn’t approach them. Several years later, when the pensioner was already completely weakened, all the elephants in this herd remembered him and came to say goodbye.

Lawrence Anthony was an active environmentalist. He became famous around the world under the nickname “Elephant Whisperer”, because he understood these animals better than others. Therefore, in 1999, he quickly realized that a group that had fallen into a quagmire would not let anyone near them – elephants need time to share their personal space.

At that time, the man was patiently waiting for the elephants to get used to him. He brought them food, and then one by one he led the whole herd out of the bog onto dry land. Naturally, the elephants hurriedly went about their business, while Lawrence returned to his work protecting wildlife.

Over the years, Lawrence is completely weakened. He led the life of a retiree in a house on the outskirts of the reservation. On one of the last days, relatives of the pensioner saw a whole herd of elephants at the window – 31 animals traveled 12 kilometers and then searched for a home in the reserve for almost two days.
