If there is a creature as cute as a kitten, but at the same time as smart and decent as a well-behaved adult dog, then it’s Babydoll sheep. Centuries of selection have provided this breed with three irreplaceable qualities.
First, they have excellent wool. Second, sheep are small, cute and unassuming. Third, they are intelligent and obedient, and as a result, they are often bred as the best pets.
Originally British, the breed has now taken hold all over the world.
Babydolls don’t need big huts or other infrastructure, just enough shelter from the rain in summer and shelter from the wind in winter, otherwise they bear the vagaries of the weather indifferently.
The thickness of the hair of this breed is about 22 microns, which gives their wool a cashmere look – soft, elastic, pleasant to the touch. But more and more farmers are admitting that they throw “Babydoll” not for wool, but for the heart’s sake.
Painfully, they are charming, quick-witted and accommodating, lambs are playful, and adults may even be given some household chores. For example, to guard the orchard, because the small sheep themselves do not spoil the trees, they only eat grass, but they fertilize the land and do not leave large cattle near the seedlings.
Almost always, sheep give birth to twins, often triplets. And then, by chance, by default, their coat color is white, but the breed has a strong recessive gene that manifests chaotically and dyes the coat black.
