A dachshund that fell from a plane miraculously survived in the Chilean desert

A unique case of miraculous pet rescue has occurred in South America. In Chile, a dog fell from a plane in flight and survived.

The story of the two-year-old dachshund named Gaspar began with a not entirely successful flight from the Chilean capital of Santiago to the city of Iquique. The dog was flying towards its owner, Janis Kavier, with her close friend.

When landing, the carrier with the animal fell to the ground and opened. Frightened, the dog jumped up and ran away as soon as airport staff started unloading the luggage.

The animal hid in the Atacama Desert, considered the hottest in the world. During the summer months, the thermometer there rises to more than 50 degrees Celsius, or even more.

The dachshund stewardess who met her friend was horrified to find an empty carrier. The girl turned to rescuers for help and posted an announcement about Gaspar’s loss on social media.

Compassionate locals began looking for a pet. Representatives of the airline and the local army were also actively involved in the search for Gaspar.

As a result, the dachshund was found in the middle of the desert a week later. The completely emaciated animal was barely shuffling when it was discovered.

“In six days in the desert, he became very skinny,” said veterinarian Paola Bravo, who examined the dog.

A few days later, the dachshund began to gain weight. It should be noted that the airline, during the flight from which the dachshund was lost, has already taken responsibility for the incident and is conducting an internal investigation.
