Jérémy Mercier, a 38-year-old Haitian, has 62 youngsters. Imagine 62 people who need to be fed, clothed, protected and above all loved. The parents of these little ones either abandoned them or died or were abused. Without Jeremy, they would be homeless.
Previously, Jeremy worked as a communications specialist, but in 2010 a very devastating earthquake took the lives of over 220,000 people. Jeremy himself was inside the building during the earthquake, and it began to crumble right above him.
He jumped from a third story window and lost consciousness, injuring his leg in the fall. When he wakes up, he sees in the rubble of the buildings three children whose parents are dead, but who survived. Without hesitation, he took them to his home, then Jeremiah brought him other children left without parents.
Over time, people who, due to poverty in Haiti, could not feed their young began to leave them on Jeremy’s doorstep. Thus, his house officially became an orphanage. Four years ago he had 35 cubs, two weeks ago – 58, finally, and today – 62. Jeremy hasn’t given up a single cub!
Jeremy had to face many obstacles and troubles during this period: the most difficult, according to him, was when his landlord threw him and his 12 little ones out on the street for non-payment of rent. Jeremy didn’t know what to do and went to his mother’s house, where the guys had to wash up in the sink.
All he could offer the little ones for food at that time was corn, rice and beans. Jeremy has suffered, seeing how his little ones are starving and have nothing to live on, even the simplest things and conveniences.
But Jeremy never gave up! Soon he was able to find another house in which he and his students still live. These little ones really need parental love, and Jeremy does everything to take care of them not only financially, but also emotionally.
Jeremy works 7 days a week, changing the lives of hundreds of people in the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. He is considered a true hero, a holy man among us, the one who makes the world a better place every day.
And although it is still difficult for him to provide for the financial needs of all the little ones and that he strives to have food on his table every day, Jérémy Mercier declares: “I will never stop help my little ones. Never. Never. Never ! »
