It’s always nice to have a loyal pet by your side. Animals have great instincts and can spring into action to help you if you are in an emergency.
This is the case of an intelligent cat, who saved the life of his 83-year-old mistress after she fell into a ravine.
On August 14, police in Bodmin, England, launched a search for an elderly woman who had gone missing in the area. But it didn’t take long for them to make a discovery, thanks to an unlikely source.
A neighbor reportedly heard a cat meowing constantly at the corner of a large cornfield.
Quickly, the neighbor figured out that the cat, named Piran, belonged to the missing woman – and was trying to warn her of her whereabouts. It turned out that the 83-year-old had fallen deep into an embankment in the field near her home.
“The elderly woman fell approximately 30 meters into a very steep embankment, with incredibly difficult access and rough terrain,” Bodmin police wrote.
With the missing woman finally located, Bodmin Police and the Cornish Fire and Rescue Service quickly came to the rescue to pull her out of the ravine.
After getting her out, the Cornwall Air Ambulance rushed her to hospital. Her condition is stable and, according to an update, she is “in good spirits” as she continues to receive treatment.
It’s a huge ‘bravo’ to all the emergency services that worked together and to Piran,” the unnamed neighbor told the BBC. “The outcome could have been much worse”. Although the emergency services did indeed carry out the rescue, Piran deserves a lot of credit for saving her owner’s life. Considering the woman’s age and the fact that she was out of sight of the rescuers, it’s easy to imagine how things might have turned out differently if the cat hadn’t been so alert.
The cat was hailed as a hero: “Piran the cat saved the day!”. Bodin Police wrote on Facebook.
