RENAUD FALLS IN LOVE WITH DOMINIQUE WHILE SHE WAS MARRIED TO GERARD LANVIN AND “ALWAYS LOVED HIM”
The love story between Renaud and Dominique Quilichini will have been beautiful. The two met in 1977, and loved each other for years. But it must be said that all was not won in advance.
The thing is, when they started dating, Dominique already had someone in her life. It was the actor Gérard Lanvin. Renaud then had to wait.
During a documentary dedicated to the songwriter, his twin brother David spoke about it. In particular, he confided:
“It was long. She was a little hesitant, she still loved Gerard but their couple was a little floundering. She took a while to make up her mind”
Then finally, Dominique decides to leave everything for love. Thus in 1980, the couple became the happy parents of a little girl named Lolita. The latter was born eight days after their union.

Facing permanent anxiety, the singer tries to take refuge in alcohol. His wife no longer recognizes him, and their love gradually begins to fade.
“I was constantly somatizing (…) I lay there for months without being able to move, unable to set foot outside, too exhausted to even stand up or sit down”,
recounted Renaud’s ex-wife remembering the hardship she faced.

Note that in 2016, Renaud told an anecdote that was surprising to say the least. In his autobiography entitled Like a lost child, the singer said he asked for the hand of his ex-wife Dominique a second time.
“The other day, as Dominique was telling me again how happy she was to hear me sing again, to see me alive again, I suddenly interrupted her to ask her if she didn’t want to be my wife again”,
he explained.

Renaud’s marriage proposal surprised Dominique. And although the singer spoke from his heart, his former wife did not take his request seriously. According to him, his response was:
“Didn’t I stay your wife all these years?”
