Is it possible for people to reach their 90s without even a hot meal to eat? Unfortunately, many people, especially the elderly, are unable to make ends meet and are experiencing severe economic hardship. The Covid-19 pandemic that has hit countries around the world has certainly not helped the economy.
In Turin, police spotted a very elderly woman who appeared to be walking with difficulty down the street and stopped her to ask if she needed anything. The elderly woman burst into tears and told officers she was very hungry. She hadn’t eaten for 12 hours and had no more money to buy even a piece of bread. The local police, fortunately, did not sit idly by.
The woman broke down in liberating tears when officers asked her if she was okay. The elderly lady, aged nearly 90, said she was fine and did not need a doctor, but was very hungry: “I have no food at home and I I have no more money to buy anything”.
The incident took place in the Cenisia district of Turin, where officers took the woman to her home and found that her fridge and wardrobe were completely empty. Her bank account was also completely empty and the woman seemed to have no memory of her last withdrawal. The elderly woman was very hungry and felt weak after 12 hours of fasting.
So the officers immediately brought her something to eat: “I’d like some chicken with baked potatoes,” she said, and the officers granted her little wish. In addition to lunch, the agents provided him with some provisions for the following days.

It is shocking to think that this elderly woman could very well be our grandmother: how can we leave an elderly person to their fate? Where are the competent authorities?
Let’s hope that this nice gesture by the police will not remain isolated and that the call for help from the old lady, and many others in the same situation, will not go unanswered by the State.
