Girl, 3, wakes up at her own funeral, is rushed to hospital but dies again – Rest in peace

We often hear stories of people coming back from the dead, but we dismiss them as folktales. But a story that unfolded for the family of a three-year-old girl, brought all their nightmares into one.

On August 17, three-year-old Camila Roxana Martinez Mendoza was experiencing stomach pains, vomiting and fever. This worried her mother Mary Jane Mendoza who decided to consult a doctor for her little girl.

She took her daughter to a pediatrician in her hometown, Villa de Ramos. The local doctor deemed the case to be advanced and in need of more specialized medical attention and help, prompting the mother to take her daughter to Mexico’s central state of San Luis Potosí.

She went to the Basic Community Hospital in Salinas de Hidalgo. Doctors at the hospital placed a cold towel on the girl’s lower body to bring down her temperature, as well as an oximeter to monitor her oxygen levels.

She went to the Basic Community Hospital in Salinas de Hidalgo. Doctors at the hospital placed a cold towel on the girl’s lower body to bring down her temperature, as well as an oximeter to monitor her oxygen levels.

Doctors let the little girl out and prescribed her paracetamol. But her condition worsened over the next few hours, prompting her family to seek a second opinion. The next doctor advised a fruit diet and also prescribed another medicine.

As this was not enough, they consulted another doctor, who indicated that the little girl should be hospitalized immediately. She was admitted to Salinas Hospital between 9 and 10 p.m., where doctors and medical support staff worked to stabilize her condition.

“They wanted to give him (intravenous therapy). They took a long time to put him on oxygen. They didn’t because they couldn’t find his little veins; eventually a nurse took care of it,” her mother said.

After ten minutes, they removed the drip and took little Camila to rest. She was still hugging me, they took her away and said, ‘You have to let her rest in peace,'” her mother recalls.

Mendoza was ominously locked in another room, separated from her infant daughter. She eventually got out, but the medical staff wouldn’t let her into the room where her daughter was.

Shortly after, he was told that Camila had died of dehydration.

The family held a funeral display the following day for friends and family to mourn the tragic loss of the baby girl. During the viewing, Camila noticed the coffin glass was fogging up.

As her family tries to convince her that she is delirious and won’t let her open the coffin, her paternal grandmother wants to take a closer look. She looked out the window and saw Camila moving her eyes, and upon checking, she even discovered a pulse!

She was rushed to Salinas Hospital where doctors tried everything to revive her. But they did not succeed and diagnosed the little girl with cerebral edema.

“That’s really where my baby was killed. We are devastated because my daughter was a very happy person, she got along with everyone, she did not isolate anyone. A lot of people on the ranch support us because she was cherished,” Mendoza said.

Camila was going to start kindergarten this week. The first death certificate lists the cause of death as simple dehydration, while the second lists dehydration with cerebral edema and metabolic failure.

San Luis Potosí State Attorney General Jose Luis Ruiz is investigating the case and an autopsy of Camila is also underway. His parents are asking the state for justice.

Let’s hope the Mendoza family gets the justice and answers they deserve.

What a horrible tragedy to live. Rest in peace, little Camila.
