If not for the accident that took the life of Diana Frances Spencer , the queen of human hearts would have turned 60 on July 1 . Almost 24 years have passed, and many details of the terrible accident are still kept in the strictest confidence. But the press still managed to find out some information. We tell you what the last words came from the lips of the Princess of Wales and what witnesses remember about the last hours of her life .
Princess Diana’s last words
On August 31, 1997, Wales, along with her lover Dodi Al-Fayed and his bodyguard Trevor Rhys-Jones, flew at high speed into a pole in the Alma tunnel, Paris. By luck, Dr. Frederic Mayez was passing nearby, who called an ambulance and tried to provide first aid to the victims.
“When I ran to the car, I saw the most beautiful woman on the planet. She was not bleeding or seriously injured, but was unable to fully regain consciousness and was breathing heavily. I wanted to help her get her breathing back to normal. It seemed to me that everything would be fine with her , ” recalls the doctor.
Police and firefighters soon arrived at the scene. First, they decided to check Trevor’s condition, since his external injuries seemed much worse than the others. Diana lost consciousness, then came to her senses, moved and could even speak . Unlike her chosen one, Dodi Al-Fayed, who no longer showed signs of life.
Firefighter Xavier Gourmelon was the one who heard Welsh’s last words: “She said, ‘ Oh my God, what happened?’ “I held her hand and tried to console her. Apart from the shoulder injury, there seemed to be no further damage. But not everything can be seen with the eyes . ”
At some point, the princess’s heart stopped beating. The doctors quickly responded and began doing chest compressions. Almost immediately the heartbeat was restored. There was still hope for her salvation .
When Diana was taken to the hospital, an x-ray showed that she was bleeding internally. But it was already too late . Just a few minutes later, her heart made its last beat. All attempts to bring Welsh back to life were in vain.
What killed the queen of people’s hearts
Later, medical examiner Richard Shepherd concluded that the princess’s life was taken by an almost imperceptible and very rare injury – a rupture of a vein in the central cavity of the chest . “It is extremely difficult to determine this, but even if it is possible to detect a problem, it is even more difficult to eliminate it ,” the doctor explained.
The expert also added that Diana could have saved her life . If the princess had used a seat belt, this sad fate could have been avoided. But neither Welsh, nor her lover Dodi, nor the driver himself were wearing a seat belt.
And only the bodyguard Trevor, who shortly before the collision decided to snap the notorious belt, survived as a result. However, due to serious head injuries, he does not remember what happened on the day of the accident .
