The designer got rid of renovations in the spirit of the 2000s and created a bright and comfortable living space.
Designer Alexandra Matushkina, together with her Material studio team, transformed the interior of a 52 sq. m apartment. m for a housewife who plans to live here with her beloved dog. The feature of the apartment was its circular layout.
Kitchen-dining room before renovation
The peculiarity of this project is its layout. The fact is that in the 2000s, customers combined three-room and one-room apartments into one large one, with radius walls and multi-level ceilings. Now the designers were faced with a new task – to divide the apartments back for separate living for adult children.
The kitchen and dining area were separated by a semicircular partition with a “window”. This layout was fashionable in the 2000s, but now it no longer meets the requirements of functionality and style.
Kitchen-dining room after renovation
The kitchen set was placed along two walls. One part is the main cooking area with sink and stove, the other is a storage area, as well as an area for making tea and coffee or toast. Two worktops allow you to prepare and display food on both sides – this is a very convenient and functional solution.
A dining area with vintage chairs and a table was set up by the window.
Hallway before renovation
The space was overloaded with multi-tiered ceilings, complex partitions, and dark furniture. Overall, the walk-through areas seemed cramped.

Storage systems in a small apartment are always a difficult task. Here it was solved by designing a spacious dressing room in the sleeping area. Also, a large storage system was placed in the hallway for outerwear.

The premises were irregularly shaped and had outdated decoration. I wanted to add light and get rid of clutter.
