Spectacular transformation of a 54 m² apartment in the center of Moscow (before and after photos)

The two-room apartment in the old house was about to undergo a complete transformation: they remodeled it, chose beautiful finishes, and even made a golden ceiling in the hallway.

Designer Svetlana Mironova designed the interior in an old building for a married couple – the children are already adults and live separately. The area of the apartment is quite small – only 54 square meters, but the space turned out to be comfortable and functional. There is a spacious kitchen-living room, a full bedroom with a work space, a spacious dressing room, and a bathroom. The main feature is the complex carpentry and its wall-to-wall arrangement (without erecting walls in construction), which saves space.

The apartment is located in an old house in the center of Moscow: originally there was a separate elongated kitchen, a huge hallway and a living room. As a result of the redevelopment, we combined the kitchen and living room, created a separate bedroom and a spacious dressing room in place of the hall in the hallway. All wet areas remained in place.

The kitchen is quite large and functional. There is a built-in refrigerator, dishwasher, oven and microwave, as well as a pull-out pencil case for storing food and many drawers – the hostess loves to cook.

Semi-matte English paint was used to decorate the walls; it is easy to clean. Also, gypsum stucco molding is used in all rooms. We chose gypsum because it can be made in any size and shape. There is porcelain tile on the floor in the hallway, dressing room and bathroom. In the bathroom, large-format porcelain tiles were installed only in the bathtub area, and the remaining walls were painted with the same semi-matte paint.

The apartment has a large number of storage systems: cabinets, dressing room, storage in the bathroom. All of them were made to order at the carpentry workshop according to the drawings of the author of the project.

“This project used Russian-made furniture in individual sizes: a sofa, chairs, a banquette, bedroom furniture – all made to order. The prototype of the dining table was found on Pinterest, it was vintage. We decided to make a similar one here, at the carpentry shop. But the light is American – they chose not very expensive, but beautiful models. As a result, above the dining table we have a composition of lamps from the famous American designer Jonathan Adler. For a long time we couldn’t choose a chandelier for the bedroom. Initially, a vintage one was planned, but it was impossible to find a suitable option for reasonable money. One day I discovered an Italian beauty from the 1970s made of frosted Murano glass with delicate petals from the Mazzega brand,” says the designer.

An undoubted feature of the interior is the golden ceiling in the hallway – it gives the apartment a special chic. To support the golden ceiling, a floor covering was made according to the designer’s sketch – laconic, from three types of porcelain stoneware, with a rather complex and small pattern.

The bathroom is quite spacious for the size of the apartment. A bathtub of 180×80 cm fits. There is a large number of places for storing household chemicals, cosmetics, mops and buckets. It was even possible to place a laundry room with a washing and drying machine built into the pencil case.
