She is the youngest mother in the world. What was the fate of the girl who gave birth to a son at the age of 5?

A healthy child weighing more than 2 kg was delivered on May 14, 1939, in one of the clinics in Lima, Peru, marking a momentous occasion. However, the mother’s age of only 5 years and 7 months was what really made this birth unusual.

Born in Tikrapo in 1933, Lina Medina became the youngest mother in history, defying medical conventions. Lina was raised in an eight-sibling household and enjoyed an ordinary upbringing until her parents became concerned about the noticeable growth in her tummy.

When Lina and her father visited a clinic in Pisco to seek medical attention, Dr. Gerardo Losada made the startling revelation that Lina, just five years old, was seven months pregnant. An additional test revealed that, unusual for someone Lina’s age, her reproductive organs were fully developed.

Medical officials chose to intensively monitor Lina instead of terminating her pregnancy despite the contradicting facts. Lina gave birth to a healthy baby named Gerardo through Caesarean section in a historic event.Following her delivery, Lina and her son went back to their hometown and led a peaceful life. Journalists and researchers were curious, but Lina never gave herself away, staying out of the spotlight for the rest of her life.

Gerardo passed away from cancer at the age of forty, leaving a tremendous legacy. The youngest mother in history, Lina led a simple life until her passing in 2015, which put an end to an incredible tale.
